“The device ‘Generic Volume’ cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later”. This is one of the common errors related to removable disk or pen / flash drives. This error generally occurs when we try to remove the disk in the middle of any process or any application using files stored on the that media. Now manually searching of which application or file in use can consume a lot of time then here is simple method and the best application; though the application already mentions over the blog as “The best tool to delete a file locked by viruses or any application” (More info here..) but incidentally I have found this very effective to kill the process blocking removal of pen / flash drives.

The application is well know UNLOCKER; the steps used to unblock removable drives are explained as:

1. open My Computer, right click on your USB drive icon, click on Unlocker.

2. Now click on Unlock All to kill all the processes using the Drive. Now the drive should get safely removed.
