Getting rid of “You may be a victim of counterfeiting” Problem

Few day ago I have already posted an article on how you can activate your co[y of windows if it displays a massage like “This copy of windows is not genuine” or “You may be a victim of counterfeiting”. You can find that solution at Windows XP Activation Tool: Convert Windows into Genuine Copy. This type of problem generally occur when you are using a non genuine or pirated copy of windows and forgot to disable the automatic update feature from control panel.

So now when it looks for updates through the Microsoft website then system started showing this notification that reads “You may be a victim of software counterfeiting” and “This copy of windows does not pass genuine Windows validation”.

So if this has happened to you then first thing you should try : Use System Restore before you go for anything else you can find it from the Windows > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and after restoration don’t forget to disable the automatic updates from control panel. But if in case you are not able to restore your pc or it malfunctioned then follow the below steps to get rid of it.

1.   Launch Windows Task Manager by using Ctrl+Alt+Del keys

3.    Locate the process “wgatray.exe” and end it.

4.    Log in into the Safe Mode and delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32

5.    Also delete the WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

6.    Type regedit in Run to open Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify key.

7.    Delete the folder WgaLogon and all of its contents.

8.    Restart the PC normally.

Though the above process is very simple to use but even you fails to follow it properly then you can also try wgakill.exe or removewag.exe to getting rid of such annoying windows protection system.
